INDIAN GOLF PREMIER LEAGUE SET TO MAKE ITS DEBUT THIS JANUARY

India is all set to witness a brand-new chapter in its sporting journey as the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) gears up for its inaugural season this January. Positioned as the country’s first franchise-based golf league, the IGPL aims to break new ground in both viewership and participation. The tournament, set to unfold over four weeks in January and February 2026, promises to blend world-class golf with the energy of league-style entertainment.

The league is being organized by Bharat Golf Private Limited in association with the Indian Golf Union (IGU), with official approval from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It will have six city-based teams comprising a blend of professional golfers and emerging talents. In a move that has captured attention across the sports world, former cricket legend Yuvraj Singh has joined the league as a co-owner and brand ambassador, bringing his star power to a sport seeking wider appeal.

The format itself is designed for excitement as the teams will compete in a home-and-away model during the first three weeks. It will be followed by a high-stakes finale featuring the much-anticipated “YUVICAN” event—a marquee celebration envisioned to attract fans far beyond traditional golf circles. Notably, the inclusion of celebrated golfers such as Shiv Kapur, Jyoti Randhawa, Jeev Milkha Singh, Gaganjeet Bhullar, and SSP Chawrasia alongside amateurs signals a progressive approach to team composition and mentorship.

But the vision of the IGPL goes beyond competition. Organizers have committed to training over one million school and college students in golf within three years, positioning the league as a force for grassroots transformation. Team auctions, a pre-league tour, and multi-platform broadcasting will amplify its reach, signalling a new era for Indian golf.

The Indian Golf Premier League is not just about introducing a new competition— it represents a bold step toward reshaping the way golf is played, watched and supported in India. This January, the fairways will carry a new energy- one that could redefine India’s relationship with this “Elite” sport.
